This website is hosted by our ESP8266
What we did:
We created a small system, capable of controlling actuators and collecting data from various sensors. In addition to that, the gathered data will be stored in a cloud. Finally it hosts a webpage which gives us the opportunity to remotely control and visualize the state of the system.
Whats the point of this?
The goal of our IoT project is to give you some food for thought, what can be done related to the Internet of Things.
How can you benefit from our experience?
In April we launched our new IoT workshops. These give you an broad insight in what’s needed to build an IoT solution.

The board we are using is the ESP8266-EVB. For generel purposes there is a relay mounted on it. By klicking the buttons on the hosted webpage, you can switch the relay on and off. This is some very basic stuff. Nevertheless, for example for home applications, when time managament hasn't that much importance, this can be pretty useful.
Simultaniously the ESP8266 checks whether the relay has actually been set or not.
As we are only allowed to update Thingspeak every 15s, don't expect always an instant result by clicking on the control buttons. However, every event gets buffered, so please be patient.
A door reed contact, installed at our front door, allows us to record, when the door opens. This is done by using a simple voltage divider to get a digital signal.
Although this might seem somewhat unspectacular, you can get a bunch of information out of this. For example if your door has been opened, at a time you wouldn't expect at all, things become quite interesting.
As the door lock of our front door is electrically driven, we can measure if the respective control unit is reliable, i.e. if the door is locked at the right time.

As you can see in the charts, the door lock works well, and the door is only unlocked during our office hours.
In our entrance, we installed a motion detector from Theben.
To capture events like a running coffee machine or if someone heats his lunch, we installed some sensors in our front room. We got a temperature, an humidity and a VOC sensor. Those allows us to monitor the air-conditions.
Finally we wanted to have an analog value. We decided in favor of a light dependent resistor, to measure the brightness in our office.
